Hi all,
we have a need for watering volunteers at our Growing project in Weir. The project is ongoing with the partnership group being Rubicon who visit twice weekly. As you can imagine there are difficulties with watering over the summer months when the weather is hot. If anyone is local enough to be able to help us out maybe just an hour to water on a regular basis that would be an emormous help and would prevent crop death... a dreadful thing which strikes us all in hot…

I'm playing a gig with Ben this Friday, so if I get no response via e-mail, I'll speak to him. I've lined up a few acts already so would be good to talk logistics.
Regards,
Tim.
Thanks for the info. I will try and get in touch with Pat Standon before the weekend. It is really good to see the allotment group start to take shape!
My working arrangements revolve mainly around house-husband duties. Wednesday 10:30 (24th?) sounds fine as long as long as it doesn't matter that I bring along my 3 year old! He is pretty well behaved, but if it is likely to be a problem we can look at another time - I will have more options during the schools Easter Break.

Sorry, omitted to respond to the important question! Yes, happy to be involved - didn't wan't you to think I was ducking the issue!!
Cheers
Matt
Thanks for the message. Not sure what the anticipated plan or process is re: the allotment question so I am 'brain-storming' at the moment, putting down on paper anything and everything that occurs. If nothing else it is focusing the mind!
Things seem to be moving on apace with the council which of course is a good thing but do we have any ideas on how these plots will be managed? Is there a template we are working to? I have a long list of questions but if the plan is to get a working group together to focus on allotments these can be addressed there.
It does sound as if this needs to happen quickly though if the allotment group is to provide any considered support and direction. Is it worth adding a discussion on this forum calling for people who want to be part of this process? Do we need to have a seperate allotments meeting or do you think this is something that can be done as an online discussion and subsequently 'reduced down' to a discussion/proposal document? I am conscious both of generating unnecessary bureaucracy but also of having things organised effectively and openly!
What do you think?!
I also have a few leads on some potentially suitable materials and will keep you updated when I have more firm offers (Will give you plenty of warning and the last word if storage is required!!). It does lead me to thinking that it would be useful to have a directory of 'sponsors' - financial or material. Perhaps in conjunction with the website plans. I will get in touch with Paul and see how things are progressing and what he thinks.
Sorry for the long message!
Matt
We will be delighted to help with the planters. When are you hoping to have them ready? We usually work on Sunday mornings from 10 to noon but other times can be arranged. Is there a chance we could meet up in Waterfoot to talk about it? I get to work about 7.30 and most days I am free for a while after school finishes at 3.45. I am also free at various times during the school day. You can e-mail me at school (da@brgs.org.uk) or ring me at home (01204 883544). Ringing me at work (01706 234500) is not always easy but if you leave a message I will get back to you. David
I'm quite willing to help schools at this end of the valley through the Natural England ed visit scheme I already use the veg garden as part of the food and farming visit.
We've won a prize in the Kenwood food and cooking comp!
