Just harvested my first spuds of the year, variety Sharpe's Express, 3 tubers planted in a large tub in the greenhouse in early march, harvested 9th July 2012, weight 1.2Kg. This is the second year I’ve grown this variety, they've got a good taste, though do break up on boiling, steaming may be better. I put a green roof on my shed earlier this year, to help encourage wild life into my garden (important as I try to grow as much fruit and veg as possible). This was done as cheaply as possible, only having to buy some treated wood and compost.
I first made a frame around 3 sides of the roof from 3" treated wood, an extra coating of preservative being applied, then a layer of polyethylene sheeting onto which old seed trays were placed and filled with compost (aprox 2"). To allow…
