Our Easter Project

Every year we like to have a bit of an 'Easter project' which usually involves landscaping or moving or renovating something in our garden.

This year, we decided to reclaim part of the garden that the chickens had turned into a bombsite a couple of years ago!  At the side of our house we had the chicken run and a grassed area leading up to four compost bins that I made out of old pallets.  (we have four so that the first can be regularly turned into the second, and so…

Spring is here!

Spring is here at last! It's taken much longer than normal this year and its meant that I have started way later sowing seeds etc than usual.  However over the last few weeks I have been sowing seeds.  Even on the coldest days the plant house has been getting warm during the day and I've had my warm windowsill.  This is what I've sown so far:  …

A Busy Day!

What a busy day yesterday as we went from one end of the Valley to the other!

First stop was over at Wallbank in Whitworth to meet up with Abbie again.  Although the planters were empty after the Winter, they are in a very prominent place and really eye-catching.  We…

Stacey Spam

Hi Everyone

I was alerted yesterday to messages by a new member 'Stacey' which looked like spam.  The member was instantly removed and any messages that were left by the member were deleted.

As with all social media, please be wary of opening anything that looks suspicious.  I personally approve all requests for membership, and, occasionally the odd one slips through.  I treat anything like this very seriously, and, with your help, all accounts of this…

Making do in March

As always, March has so far been a mix of hope giving spring, mixed with spells of winter revisiting.  Today we woke to snow on the ground, but this afternoon its gone and quite nice and sunny so we have been out in the garden getting a few things done. So here's what we got up to, and to keep you all warmed up in the cold, some recipe ideas for what might be in your garden at the moment.

I've recently done a big clean and tidy of the patio so that on those rare occsions of…

Whitaker Park Coming Back To Life

Despite the biting cold on Saturday, we managed to top-up the beds and planters with new compost and give it a good feeding with some rather pungent organic compost pellets!

It's given the area a lovely fresh look, and, come the end of this month we'll be planting new things there for everyone to enjoy.

Please keep an eye on this site for details of our next 'get togethers' at Whitaker Park.  We hope to have some midweek and some at weekends, so there's…

New Book By Our Patron

Our Patron, Christine Walkden, has a new book out that should appeal to all INCREDIBLE's everywhere!

Named 'No-Nonsense Container Gardening' it explains how using containers or pots as a base for your gardening is so versatile - try making an eye-catching design feature by growing herbs in a zinc bucket, growing spring bulbs in a pretty olive oil can on your patio or growing a complete salad in some old tyres. Growing your own containers is both rewarding and…

Getting started for my growing year

It's still wintry out there, but the signs of spring are showing with longer days and buds appearing.  So I've started to get itching to grow.  I feel quite excited about getting back outside.  Mind you, don't get me wrong, on bad weather days you won't find me outside, I'm a lightweight, but I am…
