Whitaker Park
We look to have solved our (lack of) soil problem at Whitaker Park courtesy of Rossendale Borough Council.
By Wednesday 27 June, the new beds should have soil in them and ready to be planted.
Please come along (weather permitting) and help us plant. If you have any unwanted edibles please bring them too.

Gemma Leaves
Very sad news reached us recently that Gemma Rooke, Community Engagement & Grant Officer, is to leave her post at Rossendale Borough Council.
Gemma has been a great supporter of our cause and has given us superb advice and guidance over many of our projects.
She played a big part in the Whitaker Park plot, and, has also helped us in having a presence at the gardens to be built on the former Valley Centre in Rawtenstall. She has been active with us…

Green Roof
I put a green roof on my shed earlier this year, to help encourage wild life into my garden (important as I try to grow as much fruit and veg as possible). This was done as cheaply as possible, only having to buy some treated wood and compost.
I first made a frame around 3 sides of the roof from 3" treated wood, an extra coating of preservative being applied, then a layer of polyethylene sheeting onto which old seed trays were placed and filled with compost (aprox 2"). To allow…
