What a fantastic day.
All things trees and apples were celebrated at Whittaker park yesterday for Curiosities weekend on Apple day. From an introduction to the new tree trail, maps available at the museum, Apple juicing, Thanks IE Ramsbottom for loaning your press, RR Apple pie competition ( yummy), a visit from our local owl charity and bee keepers, creation of a pine-eatum to make sure our feathered friends have plenty of food as winter approaches and local food stalls was…

In the morning, Joanna and I travelled to the Southport Theatre & Convention Centre to collect an award in the RHS It's Your Neighbourhood presentations. We knew we were receiving an award, but, had no idea what it would be.

Calling All Bacup Incredibles!
We have now agreed a legal licence to take on, plant, and, look after a small plot of land in Bacup Town Centre.
The land is a good sized walled planter on the end of the row of terraced houses at 5-17 Yorkshire Street adjacent to the old Health Centre. This is the street that starts at the roundabout in the centre of Bacup (outside REAL) and goes up the hill towards Todmorden. This will be a great Incredible Edible welcome to Rossendale!

IER Shortlisted for Rossendale Awards

We have just received confirmation that Incredible Edible Rossendale have not only been nominated for an award in the Business & Community section of the Rossendale Awards 2011, but, have also been shortlisted!
To be nominated was great, to be shortlisted is INCREDIBLE!
The Awards ceremony is tomorrow night at St Marys Chambers in Rawtenstall, and, will give us a superb opportunity to raise our increasing…

Rossendale Grocer has over 30 types of apple!
GREENGROCER Peter Camm can't be pipped when it comes to apples – for he serves more than 30 varieties at his stall on Rawtenstall Market!

One hour from every IER volunteer could make such a difference. Whether you get involved in tidying, planting, caring for or harvesting an IER site, an hour looking at funding applications to support our work, or an hour spent maning a stand at community events aimed at raising awareness of the IER principles / engaging volunteers. The Three Sisters Guild
An idea when you are planning your garden for next year is looking at companion planting and in particular Guilds. The most famous Guild that i learned about when i was doing my permaculture course is the Three Sisters Guild of Corn, Squash and Beans.
